Mastering
Mastering is an important, but often misunderstood, component of music production. It’s usually the last piece of the puzzle before sending your music out into the world, and as a result of that it can sometimes be overlooked. A good master will add depth and presence to your mix while also raising the volume to an industry standard level. There will always be some variance in loudness from genre to genre or even song to song, but if your music is significantly quieter than the rest of what your audience is listening to, chances are they’re going to move on and listen to something that truly commands their attention.
To get a better idea of exactly how mastering impacts a song, listen to the following examples.

“We loved working with Hudson. He brought out subtle depth and presence in our record, and was easygoing and professional in all our dealings.”

“Yeah I tried to make ‘em louder on my own and they just sounded worse so I sent ‘em to Hudson and now they sound better and louder. Like significantly louder. Quick turnaround too, and he provided thoughtful explanations of the process.”

My goal with each master is to help your song reach it’s full potential while honoring your original vision. I do my best to understand where each song is coming from before diving in, and I’m always open to collaboration with the artist in order to fine tune exactly the sound they’re looking for.
* Not my mix. These two songs were mixed before I was brought on to the projects, where as The Fall is self produced.
